This activity is a field trip which centers on cemeteries. Students will easily see how cemeteries, graves and grave markers vary over time and between ethnic groups. They will need some help to understand how attitudes towards death also vary over time and between ethnic groups. Before doing the field trip we recommend studying the next webpage on gravestones and memorials.
Estimated time for the field trip: 4 hours. Before the fieldtrip, you will need to give a lesson on cemeteries and gravestones. The graphic materials on this webpage will give you the information you need to impart to your students.
