Churches and Public Buildings -- Part 2

Churches and public buildings generally reflect the highest aspirations of the groups that build them. They are almost always designed by professional architects or skilled builders.

We do not recommend a field trip especially to churches and public buildings as an archaeology lesson. Instead, we encourage teachers to use any field trip to such facilities to impart archaeological insights to students.

The Old Coast Guard Station was built in 1936. It is no longer in use by the Coast Guard.
The Old Hospital was built in 1908 and used until 1954 when it was replaced by Southeast Georgia Regional Hospital. The additions were made in 1928 and during World War II.
The Ritz Theater which was built in 1880 was originally named either the Grand Opera House or the Brunswick Opera House. No one seems to know which. Possibly it was called by both names. It laster housed the first movie screen in Brunswick.
